Essential oils provide the basis for Aromatherapy, which literally means ‘treatment with aromas’. Our sense of smell is the most powerful of all our senses and has a dramatic effect on the way we feel and can trigger powerful emotional and physical responses – relaxing, balancing, uplifting, soothing, wellbeing.
Essential oils can be used easily at home in the following ways, to help us at this time. I have worked as an Aromatherapist at Neal’s Yard and highly recommend their essential oils.
Aromatic Bath: Add a few drops of your chosen essential oil to your shower gel or bath oil.
Vaporisation – Add a few drops of your chosen essential oil to a vaporiser, burner or diffuser.
Inhalation – Add 4-6 drops of your essential oil to a bowl of steaming water to help clear your head. Place a towel over your head and lean over the bowl. (Not suitable for children or Asthma sufferers).
Aromatic Candle: There are some heavenly essential oil fragranced candles on the market. Check out Duxmore Botanics they have some divine candles and tealights.
Good Essential Oils are:
Eucalyptus – stimulating, cleansing, invigorating
Geranium – floral notes, uplifting, balancing
Grapefruit – uplifting, refreshing, energising
Lavender – balancing, calming, cleansing (good one to keep by your bed if you can’t sleep, add a few drops to a tissue and inhale)
Peppermint – helps clear the head and good for digestion
Ylang Ylang – floral notes, relaxing, soothing
