How it works

The Application of Heat:

The short-term effect of heat on the body is fabulously therapeutic. The use of heated stones on an isolated area will pull blood to the tissue of that region. The result will be warm, flushed skin (hyperaemia). This allows the therapist to work even deeper on those impenetrable trigger points and tense muscles.

The Application of Cold:

In contrast to heat, the short-term effects of cold temperature, is much more refreshing and invigorating. When chilled stones are applied the blood vessels will constrict. The numbing effect will reduce the discomfort that accompanies strains, sprains, fractures and reducing fluid build-up in body tissues.

The use of chilled stones, are also used to rehabilitate injuries and chronic muscle spasms. The chilled stones help a client’s return to normal activity.

Temperature based massage with hot and cold stones

Hot & Cold delivered correctly is unbeatable in its therapeutic properties. Using applied temperature can penetrate deeper and last longer than a typical massage and doesn’t have any of the pain or discomfort associated with deep tissue manipulation.

The Types of Stones Used:

Basalt Stones for the heat: The therapy uses basalt pebbles for the treatment.  The type of basalt is modified igneous rock that is formed by volcanic and sedimentary action.

Marble Stones for Cooling: The marble is specially made as it is rarely found in pebble form.  Like basalt, marble has been on a long journey before it reaches our treatment room.

The stones I use are tumbled to create the beautifully smooth finish.  Taking great care of the stones is important, just as we get tired at the end of the day, so do the stones at the end of a treatment!  It is vital that the stones are recharged or energised in the sun on a regular basis so they do not lose their precious energy.
